MabThera/Rituxan: 95% Survival Rate In Patients with Aggressive Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (NHL)
BASEL, Switzerland and NEW ORLEANS, USA, June 7/PRNewswire/ -- New MabThera(R)/ Rituxan(R) data announced at the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting reveal extremely positive survival benefits for younger patients with aggressive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). Eloxatin(TM) Based Adjuvant Chemotherapy Provides 23 Percent Reduction in Risk of Colon Cancer Recurrence
PARIS, June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Results of an ELOXATIN (oxaliplatin for injection) adjuvant trial (MOSAIC) have been published in the current issue of the New England Journal of Medicine. The trial demonstrated that the addition of ELOXATIN(TM) to the current standard of adjuvant chemotherapy for colon cancer (5-fluorouracil/leucovorin known as 5-FU/LV) reduced the risk of recurrence of cancer by 23 percent in patients who had undergone surgical removal of their primary tumor. These are the first results to demonstrate a significant benefit over 5-FU/LV alone, and provide early-stage colon cancer patients with new hope for potential cure of their disease.

Sanofi takes charge of arranged marriage

After four months of bitter opposition, Aventis was forced to accept an improved offer of E55.3 billion from Sanofi - an arranged marriage orchestrated by a French government unabashed at supporting the deal in favour of Switzerland's Novartis, who had also expressed an interest.

Zocor approved for sale over-the-counter
Friday , May 14, 2004 (Pharmafocus) The UK government has given the go ahead to the world's first over-the-counter statin drug, Johnson & Johnson MSD 's Zocor Heart Pro (simvastatin) but some doubt whether the move will provide real benefits to patients. Experts on the Committee on Safety of Medicines (CSM) advised the government that the drug should be available without prescription in a 10mg dose in pharmacies across the UK from July.
